Outlook Search Folders

Deanna Reynolds April 30, 2009 Tips & Tutorials | 35 Comments

By default, there are three Search Folders already created for you to help you further categorize your e-mail messages. These default folders include:

Categorized Mail
Large Mail (Mail Larger than 100KB)
Unread Mail

Each folder is like a virtual folder in that it contains items related to a search criterion, but deleting a Search Folder doesn’t delete the original item. It’s sort of like a query that’s constantly searching your e-mail messages for new matches. In addition to the default Search Folders, you can create your own Search Folders with your own criteria.

Adding a Predefined Search Folder
1. Choose File from the Menu bar
2. Choose New
3. Choose Search Folder…

4. Select the folder criteria

Creating a Custom Search Folder
1. Choose File from the Menu bar
2. Choose New
3. Choose Search Folder…

4. Under Custom, choose Create a custom Search Folder
5. Click Choose…

6. Type a Name for your custom Search Folder

Office 2010 Beta

Deanna Reynolds April 28, 2009 IT News

According to recent reports, the new Office 2010 beta will be available to the public, possibly in November. This timeline is all speculation, of course, because Microsoft hasn’t released an “official” date. This new information comes just a couple of days after a different Microsoft spokesperson suggested the Office 2010 beta would only be released to a select group of users. But, public betas have been the standard for the last couple of releases of the Office suite. So, it would stand to reason that the 2010 version would follow a similar, tried-and-true approach.

Paste Special, People, Paste Special

Deanna Reynolds April 21, 2009 Tips & Tutorials

It’s the one feature I use with a great deal of regularity – Paste Special. Interestingly enough, I talk about it in just about every Microsoft Office course. (That’s it for the shameless plugs. Now, back to your regularly scheduled programming.)

When I’m copying formatted data from anywhere – the ‘net, Word, email…anywhere, when I paste that data into Word, instead of just hitting the “Paste” command, I use “Paste Special.” This allows me to strip all of the formatting from the copied text before pasting it into the new location. It saves a ton of editing time.

Try it. I think you’ll like it.

The New KeyStone OnDemand Logo

Nathan Torrence April 17, 2009 KeyStone OnDemand

For many designers, creating a logo is a rare treat. Fortunately, I got such a treat not too long ago. Since the recent launch of KeyStone OnDemand we wanted to create branding to set it apart as its own brand while still staying closely connected with KeyStone Learning Systems (KLS) branding.

KeyStone Learning Systems Logo below.

KeyStone Learning Systems Logo

So why put valuable time in to creating a logo? At the end of the day what does a logo really do? Well, without descending in to a long boring speech about communication and how the effects of branding affect your everyday decisions, etc… It all really boils down to this, logos speak volumes, good or bad, about whatever they represent. A logo needs to not only be easily recognizable and memorable, but it also needs to communicate a clear, concise, and positive message.

Deanna Reynolds April 13, 2009 IT News

According to Mary Jo Foley over at ZDNet, businesses should not wait for Windows 7 SP1 before beginning deployment. It really an issue of logistics and timing. Most deployments don’t happen quickly and waiting for SP1 could result in costly delays. Click here to read more.
